PER BAK JENSEN

14. March 2023 to 18. March 2023

Per Bak Jensen (* 1949 in Copenhagen) is considered one of the pioneers of Danish landscape photography. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1980–1986) and afterwards inspired generations of younger artists as a lecturer at the academy. The photographer draws our attention to the inconspicuous, which we often tend to overlook in the rush of everyday life. He is convinced that there is a hidden truth inscribed in our surroundings, both large and small.

„I can't describe it with words. So I decided to photograph it. I don't know, if you see these hidden things in my photographs when you look at them. But what you do see are the places where I felt there was something hidden – something that was reaching out to me and wanting to contact me somehow.“

In preparation for the exhibition Humming Earth, which will be on display at MKdW from 2 July 2023 to 14 January 2024, Per Bak Jensen visited us for the first time as artist in residence. He got to know us and the museum better and talked to the people in charge about the plans. As a photographer always „on duty“, he also took this opportunity to find his first fascinating motifs on Föhr, which he captured directly. We thank him for the inspiring exchange about his art, are curious to see the results and look forward to the exhibition!
