Selected masterworks from the Collection Kunst der Westküste engage three expansive contemporary paper installations designed by Frank Bölter, Thomas Judisch, and Carlos Amorales in a dialogue about subjects that will always remain topical.
Artists such as the major Skagen painters, Peder Severin Krøyer and Michael Ancher, face the relentlessness of the sea. The viewer witnesses fishermen fighting for their lives in dramatic moments and large sailing ships facing wreckage.
The range of subjects also comprises life and work on the west coast of northern Europe. Paintings by Jozef Israëls, Anna Ancher, and the “painter of Föhr”, Otto Heinrich Engel, visualise how the living conditions and quality of life of the people changed over time.
