05. March 2017 to 10. September 2017
The stays that Fritz Overbeck (1869–1909) and Hermine Overbeck-Rohte (1869–1937) spent working on Sylt and Föhr introduced an aesthetic shift into their work. Dissatisfied with developments at the Worpswede artists’ colony, they discovered a new world of motifs for themselves on the islands between 1903 and 1912. Linked with a lightening of their palettes, both of them found their way to a spontaneous and fresh artistic expression in the open air. For the first time the works are presented side by side in an extensive exhibition comprising around 100 pieces. It was developed in cooperation with the Overbeck-Museum, Bremen.
