Art. Science. Fiction Alexandra Hunts, Sjoerd Knibbeler, Sophia Pompéry, Ulrike Schmitz

24. May 2026 to 10. January 2027

How can we imagine black holes? Can mussels communicate with oysters? What is the connection between energy and power? And how do tipping points become visible?

Art. Science. Fiction brings together the works of four artists from the Netherlands and Germany who are all working at the interface of art and science in different ways.

Alexandra Hunts (b. 1990), Sjoerd Knibbeler (b. 1981), Sophia Pompéry (b. 1984) and Ulrike Schmitz (b. 1975) pursue their own experiments and think in entirely new directions. Drawn from the fields of physics, philosophy, history, politics and ecology, their themes repeatedly converge on key issues of our time.

Instead of providing precise data and objective findings, the artists use their fascinating works – which include self-built apparatuses, experimental photographs, letters and installations – to present playful and surprising ways to reach new insights.

Theoretical reflection, fantasyand technical precision come together to produce artworks that astonish us and make us think.

Many of the works have been created especially for this exhibition.

Ulrike Schmitz’s works were supported by the Alexander Tutsek Foundation.
